Most appliances are to be worn 24 hours per day unless otherwise instructed!!
Caring for your appliance:
- Brush your appliance each time you brush your teeth by holding it in the palm of your hand and brushing both sides.
- Rinse off the appliance after meals.
- Always keep the appliance in its case!
- Don’t wrap the appliance in a napkin—it could get thrown away!
- Keep away from pets! (and small kids, too!) They love them!
- Avoid flipping the appliance with your tongue—it will break!
- Avoid excessive heat—the appliance will warp!
- Avoid hard, chewy foods that could damage the appliance.
Adjusting to your appliance :
The first few days will be the hardest, but you will quickly adapt to your new appliance.
- Practice your speech by reading or singing aloud.
- The fit of your appliance will improve with each day’s wear.
- Your teeth may be sore…Call if there is a localized sore spot, but use warm salt water rinses and Tylenol for adjusting soreness.
- Your mouth will produce more saliva at first. This will diminish when your mouth realizes your appliance is not food.
Remember to bring your appliance to every appointment! We will be making adjustments to the fit. If between appointments your appliance becomes lost or broken, call right away. It is important to refit you immediately so as to not lose any progress! Additional charges may apply!
